Jiwa Academy was born from the belief that Jiu-Jitsu is more than a martial art — it is a path to connection, discipline, and self-discovery. Our mission is to share this art with the community in a way that strengthens the body, sharpens the mind, and inspires the spirit.

The name “Jiwa,” meaning soul in Indonesian, reflects the essence of what we do: bringing intention and presence into every movement on the mats. Jiwa Academy is not just a place to train — it is a space to grow, to belong, and to carry the deeper spirit of Jiu-Jitsu into everyday life.

Behind this vision is our founder, Victor, whose personal journey shaped the very soul of Jiwa.

A journey of resilience and connection

Victor – Founder of Jiwa

Growing up in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, Victor’s life was centered on the two powerful disciplines of the mat and the ocean. His Jiu-Jitsu journey began at the age of five, introduced by his father, who played an important role on Victor’s life on and off the mats. The early trainings immediately established lessons in discipline, respect, perseverance, and the strength required to overcome obstacles.

When his father passed away young, the mats became the most profound sanctuary. Jiu-Jitsu transformed from a passion into a purpose, a source of confidence, resilience, and family.

Victor founded Jiwa on the conviction that the lessons learned here have the power to change lives, just as they changed his. Victor’s core mission is to build a true community on the mat, ensuring every beginner, child, and family member finds a deep sense of belonging.

The story behind Jiwa

The Birth of Jiwa Academy

After moving to Australia in 2016 as a blue belt, Victor immersed himself in the Jiu jitsu and surf lifestyle. Jiu jitsu introduced him to friends and professors who became his family on and off the mats – people who were crucial to his development as a person, athlete and later as a professor.

The idea of founding his own academy started years ago, but the creation of Jiwa came naturally, with time and maturity. After years of practice, the real commitment began in 2024. During one of Victor’s trips to Indonesia, a conversation with a stranger on his way back served as the final push – providing the conviction he needed to pursue his passion full-time. This confirmed his belief that he could truly impact people through the discipline of the mat.

The name Jiwa was born from that powerful realization, Victor believes that his passion for Jiu Jitsu comes not only from his dedication but also from his soul. The academy was founded with the mission to introduce the transformative, life-changing benefits of Jiu-Jitsu and cultivate a strong sense of community and belonging for every student.
